Week 21: Swap A Bottle Challenge!
What you put on your face and body should matter just as much as what you put in your mouth, don’t you agree?
Let’s be honest… how often do you stop and read the labels on all of your hand soaps, lotions, shampoos and conditioners? If you’re like most people, the answer is “not very often.”
Our skin isn’t some plastic barrier against the world- it actually acts more like a sponge and can absorb up to 60% of what we put on it! This means it’s really important to carefully choose your skin and hair products!
It’s scary to think that artificial fragrances (which are added to practically everything today) contain phthalates.
Phthalates are basically a hormone disruptor and can be linked to birth defects, sperm damage, infertility and the feminization of baby boys.
We are constantly being told that these chemicals are safe, but ultimately it’s up to YOU to make that decision and to get informed.
Here are a few things you can do to keep things under control:
- Above all, read what’s on the label!
- Don’t think that expensive is better – most products are pricy because of the brand or packaging, not because they are that good.
- Try making your own care products, like face scrubs and deodorant – the Internet is loaded with great recipes.

This week, your challenge is to take some extra time and inform yourself about the ingredients that companies are putting into the products you use… and replace one or more of them with any kind of organic alternative.
If you are going to join me in this challenge, let me know in a comment below!
Make sure to tell me about the products you decided to swap for a healthier option!
